Black River Overnight Fishing Trip 2019

Five people, Don, Dennis, Del, Tom and Gary braved the Black river in spite of an ominous weather forecast and were rewarded with an excellent trip.  There were a few sprinkles the first day but the river was crystal clear and fishing was fine.  The river level was a little low but nobody had to get out and drag over shallow spots.  Our gravel bar camping spot was deep in the backcountry surrounded by tree covered hills.  Nightime brought a chorus of bullfrogs, whippoorwills, toads and hoot-owls.  The sky was overcast and no stars were visible but there were an abundance of fireflies.  Shortly after hitting the river the second day we passed a small creek that was pouring an incredible amount of muddy water into the river.  After that point the river was a murky mess and fishing fell off considerably.  About 45 minutes before we took off the river the clouds opened up and a drenching rain commenced.  Fortunately it stopped while we were loading up the gear and the boats.  Everything considered it was a good trip.

Bourbeuse River Fishing Trip 2019

There were 6 participants in this year's trip: Cindy, Don, Grant, Harry, Maryann and Gary.  The river level was higher this year and the water was not as clear.  While quite a few fish were caught they were mostly little ones.  It was fun catching them, but it's always nice to land a few that you can brag about.  The weather was pleasant, but windy.  There were a lot of leaves and other debris in the water which made fishing more challenging.  There was also a lot of pollen and other allergens in the air so there was quite a bit of coughing and sneezing going on.  We only saw two other people on the river and the scenery and solitude were enjoyed by all.

Finger Lakes State Park Water Trail

Seven people participated in the trip: Jim, Jody, Keith, Mary, Craig, Sarah and Gary. The weather was ideal, warm and overcast, so  we didn't get baked while on the water.  Unfortunately the water level was at least three feet below normal so some of the channels were impassable.  We still got to explore nearly 5 miles of interconnected waterways in this unique setting.  Interesting flora and fauna were observed.  Several fish were caught.

2018 Current River trip Sept 29 & 30

We had 23 paddlers on the trip.  We put in at Pulltite and went to Two Rivers for a 26 mile trip.  There were a few tricky places and we had 4 swimmers.  The level was adequate with dragging in a few spots but no need get out of boats.  The weather was great with a slight mist in the morning. River facts:  flow 208 CFS level.81 at the above Akers gage.

Mississippi River Night Trip July 21, 2018

We had nine paddlers and excellent weather for last nights trip around Cuivre Island.  Higher than usual levels on the Mississippi made for quite a workout going against the current up the Cuiver slough, but the owls serenaded us several times along the way.  A minor crisis at home forced us to forgo the hot dogs and head back somewhat earlier than planned but it was still after one A.M whe we returned to the boat ramp.  As usual everyone chipped in to make a great trip and a great evening on the water.

Thanks to all who participated.
