Greg, We currently have Group site GRPA reserved and have discussed getting an additional site once we have a better idea on how many attendees will be camping. Information can be found at recreation.gov Council Bluff Recreation Area. The campground area does not have water or electric. The campground water system failed some years ago and has not been repaired. Pit style toilets are available. Water is available at the concession area by the swimming beach. There are pay showers, flush toilets and sinks in that area. However this area is only certain times of the day, so plan wisely if you want to take advantage of these facilities. There is a roped off swimming area and sand beach if you have additional family members who will not be participating in the skills clinic.

The weather and water level looks good for this paddle. I should have enough for a shuttle So this trip is a go unless something unexpected happens. The plan is to meet at 9:30 am at the Scotia Access to combine boats and shuttle up to the Forest Service Access for put-in. If you want to join us post here or text me.

This is a small twisty stream, so it depends on your skill level of paddling a canoe. People do canoe it and I have in my solo canoe. Do not know if we will have any strainers that will require portaging from the recent flooding. This early the outfitters may not be removing downed trees. Most of it is easy but there will be some pushy riffles that may dump you into a strainer.

Yvonne, Could you explain your set-up a little more. Does the tent extend beyond the pick-up bed and if so how far? There are some parking slots attached to the Group site that might work if we have more information.

The weather forecast is inconsistent for tomorrow, but looks like there is a chance for some morning showers. If people still want to try to get this paddle in we could meet at Meramec State Park boat ramp at 10:30. Hopefully any morning showers will have ended by then. Since this is only a seven mile paddle we would still have plenty of time. Let me know if you are still interested. Would be sure to bring rain gear if you decide to come.

Since I have some people who may be concerned with doing 15 miles, we could as an alternative do Meramec State Park to Sand Ford. This would be about 7 miles. Let me know how you feel about this and if people want to do this instead, I will adjust the paddle. Will post final plans tomorrow afternoon.

Stacy, The Buffalo will drop quickly this week. Right now there is no significant rainfall forecast for this week. If you look at the upstream gauge you can see how quickly it is dropping.

As I stated in the April Club meeting we have not had success with people following the required procedures for ACA approved trips. We need everyone attending to fill out the provided trip waiver for each trip so that we can provide the proper information to the ACA. This includes the trip leader and all individuals that participate in the event. We also need any non ACA members to pay the ACA liability insurance fee.
Thanks for your cooperation with this.

Looks like I have enough interest to work out a shuttle, so this paddle is a go. Let’s meet at the Blue Spring Creek acccess at 10:00 to combine boats and people for the shuttle up to Onondaga. Should be warm but windy and water will still be cold this time of year so dress appropriately. Post here or text me at 314 971-5198 if you have any questions.

To be safe I am going to cancel this. Drove out to check things and I’m not sure the ice at the Meramec State Park boat ramp will be clear by Sunday.

With the rain we have had this week the Big River is dumping a lot of water into the Meramec just above where we are planning to paddle. As a result there is more current on this stretch than is normal. I do not want to cancel the paddle, but do think we should consider changing our plans some. We can still put in and take out at Route 66 state park and shorten how far we plan on paddling up stream with the increased current. Just be aware this stretch of the river will be bank full with nowhere to get off the water once we start. Another option would be to shuttle up to the Allenton Acccess and paddle to Route 66 State park. This would be about the same distance as the original plan but would require shuttling, but no paddling against the current. Think about this and we can finalize a plan when we meet at the Route 66 State Park Access.
