ParticipantI am new to the club. I see this is probably at least two nights camping to enable the two days paddling. Do the group members typically camp in the same ring of the same campground, or is it more of everybody just do your own thing situation? I see the logical Forest Service campground is first-come, first-serve. Anybody have a sense how full this smaller (19 sites I think) campground would be for an end of September weekend? Thanks!

ParticipantThere are 2 choices to camp. There is camping at North Fork Campground of the. Mark Twain National Forest. It is a rustic Campground without showers. But it has beautiful spread put campsites. There is also Twin Bridges that has tent camping, RV Camping and cabins. So people who don’t like rustic Camping can go.

ModeratorDave, could you please post what campground you will be at so that Michael will have someone from the club at the campground he is at.

ParticipantIf I am able to go (still unclear), I would stay at the North Fork Campground and try to get there early enough on Friday to secure a campsite. It is a long way to transport a kayak on the roof of my small SUV, but I think I worked all the kinks out driving down I-44 to Bourbon last week. The truck traffic there, even on a Sunday morning, was impressive!

ParticipantI have been at the campground on holiday weekends and it did not fill up. I think there is no need to be worried about getting a site.

ParticipantI am able to attend, and will likely leave home early on Friday to try and secure a site at the North Fork Campground. If I do get one, I would be happy to share the site with anyone who arrives later and needs one.

ParticipantDave, I am strongly considering going on this trip, possibly with my son John. Question: what is the distance and approximate time on river for Saturday and Sunday? I ask because my son became fatigued on a Current River trip with the club in June and we had to pull out a little early (although he did Akers Ferry to Pulltite with the Scouts yesterday with no problem).

ModeratorDennis…it’s on the event page. “On Sept 27 we will paddle from North Fork Campground to Blair Bridge (10 miles). On September 28th we’ll paddle from Hebron to Twin Bridges (6 miles).”

ParticipantWe are doing 10 miles Saturday and there will be a good current with the projected rain and gradient of the river. Sunday is much shorter and again there will be a good flow and nice gradient.

ParticipantThe recent rain has brought the river up a little but no where near a dangerous level. The weather is looking great.
