I’m looking for recommendations about size and type of canoe to accommodate my 77+ lb German Shepherd who isn’t sure he’s fond of the water, but I’m working on him and myself (a relatively portly 350 lb, 5’11” for those that don’t know me). I guess I’m looking for lots and lots of primary stability (those who have seen me attempt a canoe only to run back to my kayak know what I mean) and plenty of carrying capacity, but still suitable for some of the small twisty streams Missouri is properly famous for.
Bryan you’re welcome to try my Old Town to see how he likes it. One suggestion set the boat on the grass first and have him get in after you are in the boat, then have him get in and out while you stabilize it from outside, then move to shallow water. Some dogs will do anything for a treat. Shoot me a text maybe we can work out a time, doubt I’ll make the meeting, starting a project Tuesday.

Hey Bryan, I kayaked and canoed with my dachshund who, at first, really hated the water. Treats definitely helped, as well as a mat for him to sit/lay on that gave him a sense of security so his little feet didn’t slide around.
I have N older Old Town Discovery 15.8. You are welcome to try.
