ParticipantI would like to have a discussion of this at the next club meeting. I want to know if the full board was aware and approved this use of our website. As Carolyn states in the post it does not follow the guidelines the club has approved for posts. So I want to know why she as President felt it was okay to ignore those guidelines. Does this mean we are abandoning those guidelines. Can anyone post any donation requests they feel like?

ParticipantLet’s bring it up next meeting. We, as a club have donated clothing, blankets, winter gloves, hats, coats in the past (new or gently used), for the homeless. So that’s not new. We’ve done it around the winter holidays as part of our Holiday party . But it was never posted on Facebook before . Kathy

ModeratorI took down the post. I know it was a stretch.

ModeratorDennis, it had nothing to do with my being president. I simply needed a tent for a homeless woman and thought someone might have an extra one. Last year people brought donations to the holiday party. I have been duly reprimanded and will not use FB for this purpose again.

ParticipantLet’s clarify and correct. The post was not made on the Club website, nor the official club Facebook page. It was made on the Facebook group which is open to members and non-members alike.
Looking at the group rules, there is nothing that specifically prohibits this kind of request. This is not self-promotion or spam and I think it is relevant as we’re talking about camping gear. During this time there are a lot of sales and people will be buying new gear.

ParticipantThank you for your concern, Dennis. The current board’s positions didn’t go into effect until today; we are not involved in moderating Facebook posts. We can add this as an agenda item to our November board meeting and discuss at the January club meeting. Any changes to Facebook group guidelines will be drafted and put up to a club vote prior to implementation.

ParticipantI strongly hope that we do not lose any members over this.
