Black River Overnight Fishing Trip 2019

Five people, Don, Dennis, Del, Tom and Gary braved the Black river in spite of an ominous weather forecast and were rewarded with an excellent trip.  There were a few sprinkles the first day but the river was crystal clear and fishing was fine.  The river level was a little low but nobody had to get out and drag over shallow spots.  Our gravel bar camping spot was deep in the backcountry surrounded by tree covered hills.  Nightime brought a chorus of bullfrogs, whippoorwills, toads and hoot-owls.  The sky was overcast and no stars were visible but there were an abundance of fireflies.  Shortly after hitting the river the second day we passed a small creek that was pouring an incredible amount of muddy water into the river.  After that point the river was a murky mess and fishing fell off considerably.  About 45 minutes before we took off the river the clouds opened up and a drenching rain commenced.  Fortunately it stopped while we were loading up the gear and the boats.  Everything considered it was a good trip.
