Trip Leader is Dave Hassig, dghaessig@yahoo.com, 314-304-7970
Gravel Bar Camping, starts SUNDAY and ends Monday evening.
Meet at Boiling Spring Access on the Big Piney River: https://www.bing.com/maps?q=Boiling+Srping+Access%2C+missouri&FORM=HDRSC4&cp=37.514621%7E-91.958933&lvl=11.2
This will be an overnight trip with camping on the river. We will meet at the Boiling Spring River Access at 8AM on SUNDAY, September 3rd.
The Big Piney River is a prime Smallmouth Bass steam for those anglers among us. The Big Piney River is a gentle Class I stream appropriate for all skill levels and boats.
See the map link below for location of the access. Bring your camping gear, change of clothes in a waterproof container, your food and beverages (Non-Alcoholic Beverages while on the river). There may be downed trees, sweepers and strainers to avoid. Some boat handling skills are required. PFD’s are required while on the water.
For questions as to your skill level for this paddle, contact the trip leader prior to reserving your place.
You will be responsible for providing your own food, cooking equipment and beverages. No alcohol while on the river.
Drive time from St. Louis is approximately 3.5 hours.

Because of work requirements I need to move this trip from a Saturday and Sunday Trip to a Sunday Holiday Monday trip. We will be camping Sunday on a gravel bar just down stream from the Slab Town access, so if someone wants to make it a day trip they can get off at Slab Town if you can work out a shuttle. This is a nice spring fed river do theAHre will be enough water to paddle..THIS WILL BE A SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 3rd and MONDAY LABOR DAY SEPTEMBER 4th.

I’m looking forward to this trip. Wondering what our estimated put-in time will be on Sunday, and whether other folks in the group are planning on driving down early Sunday, or overnighting near the out-in?

I tested positive for Covid-19 this morning. These are the options.
1 cancel the trip
2. Switch it to a pop up trip if someone else wants to lead it.If you are willing to lead it as a pop up post below.

So sorry you are positive. Hopeful no severe symptoms. Recover quickly. I hope someone volunteers to lead it as a popup

So sorry to hear… I would still really like to go on this trip.

August 30, 2023 at 5:04 am #1689Eileen LenkmanParticipant
We don’t need to change this to a pop-up, just need someone else to volunteer as Trip Leader.
I am sorry but I cannot, even if we moved it back to Saturday and Sunday.
If there are no volunteers by Friday noon, I will cancel this trip. Please check back here and I will send out an email too.

I was signed up for the trip and I wouldn’t mind stepping up to lead it (with plenty of patience and grace from other trip-goers), but I’m about 12 hours behind Dave on this COVID thing and won’t be attending myself 🙁

I’ve had to cancel because of a commitment Labor Day morning . I hope Dave recovers without difficulty and Brie stays negative. Thanks for being thoughtful to others . Kathy P

We are down to four attendees now (8/29). I think we’re going to have to cancel this unless someone volunteers to be a Trip Leader.

If Dennis and Ollie would still like to go, I know Debbie and I would. If not, we wIll probably do our own trip.

Carolyn, I am still potentially open to going on the Big Piney trip but have a question: who, if anyone, would lead the trip?
-
August 31, 2023 at 1:34 am #1695adminKeymaster
I’m really sorry but I think I have to cancel going on this trip also. I’m recovering from a back injury and am concerned about hurting it again doing this much paddling.

For those that still want to go. Put in is usually Boiling Spring, take out Ross bridge. The shuttle can get confusing . If you contact Pecks last resort, they offer shuttles and camping . With 3 people , no one being able to transport 3 boats, a paid shuttle might be your best option . https://www.peckslastresort.com/ Kathy

I am going to cancel this trip so everyone can make alternate plans.

Eileen, though I know that a few of us are disappointed about not being able to paddle the Big Piney this weekend, I think you made the right call in canceling it. I know too that we all hope that Dave and Briana have minimal to no Covid symptoms, and a quick and complete recovery.
