St. Louis Canoe and Kayak Club Meeting
February 1, 2024
6:30 – 8:30pm
Shrewsbury Community Center

The meeting was called to order by Carolyn Knarr at 6:50 PM.

Welcome & Announcements
Four new people were in attendance and welcomed.

Ice Jam at the Dam
This outdoor festival will be held at the National Great Rivers Museum on February 17, 10:00am – 3:00pm. We are seeking volunteers to help staff our booth for the following hours:
9am – 12pm
12pm – 3pm
Contact Carolyn if there is interest in volunteering.

Dragon Boat Races
This charitable event will be held on August 17th at Creve Coeur Lake. Proceeds go to Operation Family Help.
Cost: $1,100 per boat with seats for up to 25 people.
There is some interest in creating a team to join the race, but a captain to organize individuals has not yet been identified. If you are interested in creating a team, please contact Carolyn with interest.

Committee Updates
Outreach committee met on January 31st.
Committee proposed to create a family membership for $30 with 6 ACA waiver for kids, meaning this is ultimately cheaper for families.
Skills clinic is scheduled for June 15th at Council Bluff. We need a chairperson for skills clinic, chief instructor and additional instructors. Other support is needed. Please contact Carolyn for more information.

Jonathan Lehmann, Missouri Whitewater Association: Judge Recruitment
Judges are needed for the 57th Annual Missouri Whitewater Championships (MWC)
No experience necessary! All training provided!
20-25 judges are needed each day for March 16 and 17

Show & Tell: Camping/Kayaking Equipment
Attendees shared some of their favorite equipment with each other. Be sure to attend this next show and tell!

Other Business (As Needed)
While there is still no word on the website, multiple members have requested an update.
March and November’s meetings will be held in the Council Chambers due to a conflict.
