We had 11 paddlers in 11 boats, some new members and some not so new, and two little dog passengers. One brand new boat. One very historic, hand-made boat. The day started with a fog that silhouetted the park trees against a serious white background. Grasses honed silver edges before the river developed islands one by one: a solid metamorphosis into a 5 star day (out of 5) before we even got started. No wind. Yep, it was late October and there was smooth water even in the non-sloughs but myriads of pelicans rode invisible waves above us.

We started late due to the report of a road closure. Then we paddled from Hideaway up past Slim Island before heading back to the foot of that island in an almost sandy location(chosen by Dave). An early return to the clubhouse lead to a few games and a marvelous potluck. Thanks! The blowlog was spectacular as Frankenstein emerged, carved then burned from his wooden shell. Camping, Breakfast. I love paddling and food! Good trip!
